Back in Business [July 23rd, 2016]

Damn, it’s been a long while. I’m hoping to get some web development and design skills up and running, along with other computer skills I’ve been accumulating for a few years. It’s been over a year since I did anything for this site, but I’m working on getting bootstrap to work with my site, vanilla for the new forums and getting back into Mario Kart Wii mods again. I’ve been uploading like crazy for a few months now.

First off, the Mario Kart Wii mods, like texture hacks and custom tracks are one of my biggest concerns, as I really want to make nice looking tracks and stuff like that. I’ve been building some ideas for custom tracks on paper and scanned them to my computer so I can enhance them a bit, also using legends to mark which items would be best suited for certain areas in my mind, at least. A lot of the newer ones I see look really nice and some even have 60fps videos on YouTube which, in my opinion, makes it look even more epic. Fortunately, that sort of epicness has transitioned into Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart 7 and even a bit in Mario Kart 8, and I’d love to be a part of those modding communities when I get there.

Since my last blog, I’ve finished up an object-oriented software developer course and only have a practicum remaining, which is merely a fancy term for job (or at least and internship) that is associated with post-secondary schools. From what I’ve seen, you can (and should) get paid while on your practicum if your employers are willing to pay you, rather than take advantage of the fact that you are a student, however, you will have to find one and apply for one in the same way as you would a job, only differing in informing the academy about practicum details, which you might not have to do for a job, unless they want references. I apologize for the run-on sentence, but you get my point, right? Aside from the practicum, which I need to write a cover letter for, I’ve done pretty well, working with Java, Python, PHP, JSP, HTML, a bit of CSS, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET and a few other languages. I’m considering getting a smaller Windows computer to work with Android Studio to build a BRSTM player if none exist (or to add to the few or many that do exist). I’m also rebuilding the web site and design, including the new vanilla forums, which I found during my program, so I can transition my threads and such over to there. Also, before I move on, does someone know how to make a good CSS template for Vanilla forums? If so, would you mind teaching me so I can build a few, based on Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Team Fortress 2, etc.?

I apologize if I bore you with unnecessary life details, but I just wanted to get it out there and improve upon the look and feel of the site before anything else. I’ll just leave you all with this video for now.

Almost There (November 27, 2014)

It’s been a while since I posted here once again. I’m glad with my new games. I finished part 1 of Omega Ruby and I fully maxed out all eleven of my Amiibo in Brawl. Anyways, I should go further into depth with one of my soft projects.

I’ve been working on a program that organizes my games, consoles, etc. in C#. I wanted to do something a bit more creative than creating a workbook in Excel, but I would use that as a reference and all. I’m using an XML document to build up more on the program, since I wanted to see what I could do with eXtensive Markup Language.

Anyways, I wanted to say that, since I don’t feel like writing some more. I shall see you all later.

Capture The Wallet (November 6, 2014)

I have a bad feeling about my wallet this month and on December, guys. Nintendo knows how to seduce my wallet into paying them for their games, much like Valve does. What I mean is, I’m getting a copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire and Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U all on the same day. I have mentioned it before, but there is no way that it can’t be repeated, at least by me.

Anyways, not much else is happening today or tomorrow, other than my parents coming down for the weekend. Nothing really special to me though. Anyways, I’ll illustrate this next project that I’ve thought of a few weeks back.

Project Libra

This project is also known as the Wiibook, which uses an old laptop of mine as a chassis for a Wii that I may get eventually. Again, it’s similar to some of the laptop based console mods I’ve seen a lot of lately. The name, Libra, is based off scales in the Babylonian astronomy, which eventually inspired the design of libraries, which the name was inspired by Libra, or something. I’m not familiar with mythology as much as I am with gaming so feel free to correct me. Also, it’s a fairly old laptop, so there’s a good reason to recycle the chassis for other purposes. Perhaps I can recycle any of the parts within it, including the RAM and Hard Drive for other purposes, but I’ll consider it when I feel like building it.

Anyways, I’ll stop posting for today, since I’m pretty hungry and I really want to get into modelling, modding my Wii and everything again, even though I still have to wait for the damned drive to arrive. I’ll see you guys around.

Canada’s Worst Day of the Week (November 3, 2014)

The title’s relevance has more to do with Canada’s Worst Driver and the latest episode. I’ve been a major fan of the show for approximately eight years and I would love to rewatch all the previous seasons of Canada’s Worst Driver for pure entertainment, while watching the current season until the season finale.

Anyways, I guess I can elaborate on projects I was thinking of during the period of several days below. I’ll keep the horizontal alignment of this entry to the left for convenience.

Project: Layz-E Boy (Potato)

As I mentioned in the previous blog, this is basically a sectional with a modified cup holder section, designed specifically to house the circuit board of any console or consoles I choose to install in it. The board will need to be secured into the unit properly so that it doesn’t fall and possibly break. The reason why I wanted to use a section with cup holders is so that more than two people can play games while having a drink or two and not have to get up to turn off the console or change games (since cup holders usually have compartments for storage, which is ideal for a few cartridges or CD cases. The sectional of choice would be leather because they don’t attract pet hairs as much as other fabrics do and it does feel rather smooth. Let me know what you think of the idea in the comments below.

Project: Medusa (TV Project)

Named after the infamous gorgon from Greek mythology, the project was meant to fit a console’s circuit board into a TV, most likely a CRT TV or something along those lines. The name has more to do with the screen than anything because like some gamers, I don’t really like looking at myself when the screen cuts to black. Like the Layz-E Boy, this was meant for pure convenience, but the reason for that is to deal with the TV only, as opposed to the console connected to it. It’s really not much of a project and the name could be far better.

Well, I guess that’s about enough out of me for now, since I can write a few more down whenever I post next time. I shall see you all next time.

Snow and Stuff (November 2, 2014)

We finally have snow in my area that may last until April or May, which is what I needed for a while now. The only part I don’t like about snow is when it falls onto my glasses while walking because I am pretty much blinded for a while, which is not a good feeling.

Anyways, I have been having issues with having SD cards work on my old Wii lately. It’s able to detect something in the SD card slot, but it won’t recognize the SD card. I’m not sure on how to fix this, but maybe someone with much more electronic repairing expertise, please come forward. As for a newer Wii I purchased back in 2010, I’ve been having issues with the disc drive, which is a relatively easy fix for me, since I know of more sites with instructions on fixing it. Once I have it running again, I’ll be able to record more gameplay footage, which I wanted to do for weeks now.

I don’t feel as though I really want to elaborate on some of the projects that I have thought up of today, since there has been some turmoil everywhere and I’ve been a little lazy and not feeling entirely optimistic lately. I might go a little into one of them and that was a sectional that was fancied to being a video game console as well, although it would have to include cupholders where the board might be installed into. I will elaborate more on this when I feel like it. Anyways, I’ll just leave this blog at that for now. See you all again next time.
